However, did you know that this fruit has a robust nutritional profile and is packed with a wide range of health benefits, too? It works as an amazing treatment for the common cold and all kinds of coughs, to name just a few.
Also referred to as “the king of the fruits”, pineapple is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, trace elements, and essential nutrients. It is high in potassium, iron, zinc, iodine, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin E.
What also contribute to its “nickname” are the crown-like leaves. They can be made into a delicious tea while the bark can be used as powerful healing remedy. The membrane is loaded with bromelain, a compound which dissolves proteins. Being difficult to digest, proteins are known to cause constipation. With this being said, it`s not surprising that pineapple juice cleanses the intestines and improves digestion.
Consuming pineapple juice on a regular basis knocks out a cough and cold in a matter of days, even if it is caused by pneumonia. It soothes sore throat too, by expelling phlegm and offering soothing properties.
It has been also shown that when combined with honey, pineapple juice effectively treats tuberculosis, sinus congestion, eliminates thick phlegm, soothes a cough, and even fights off lung infections. So, you can sooth a burdensome cough with something as simple as homemade concoction of pineapple juice and honey. As unbelievable as it seems, freshly squeeze pineapple juice is far superior to conventional cough syrups. A study found that pineapple juice is even five times more effective than cough syrup.
