Your Earwax Can Give You Important Clues about Your Health

For the most part, we don’t spend a lot of time thinking about the inside of our ears, apart from a very general “are they clean?”. Perhaps we should be giving them more thought because the color of our earwax can say a lot about our general health, and it can give us valuable clues when something is wrong.

The Role of Ear Wax in the Body

Earwax is often viewed as a gross and annoying nuisance, but it is actually a very crucial part of our natural defense system. Ear wax is formed from wax glands in the external ear canal and it protects the skin and ear from water and infection[1].

Everyone differs in the amount of ear wax that they have, and the consistency. Ear wax can be wet, or dry, and too much or too little can be quite dangerous, increasing the risk of infection[1]. So, you really want to have just the right amount.

What is the Right Amount of Ear Wax?

Every individual is different in terms of how much ear wax is the right amount, and the only way to truly know if the amount of earwax in your ears is normal is if you have a doctor analyze it.

If you’re experiencing the following symptoms you may have a buildup of earwax, and you should consult a doctor:

-Earache, fullness in the ear or a ‘plugged’ feeling

-Partial hearing loss

-Tinnitus, ringing, or noises in the ear

-Itching, odor, or discharge

-Coughing[4]

What Your Earwax Says About Your Health

Color

The color of each person’s ear wax can vary, but there are some colors that are natural, and others that indicate a serious health problem.

“Normal earwax ranges from light orange to dark brown, but if it’s yellow, green, white, or black, that suggests an infection and you need to see a doctor[3],” says Benjamin Tweel, MD, an otolaryngologist at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Odd Smell

Your ear wax should never have an odor. If it does, this could be a sign of an infection.

“In my experience, it’s the patient who notices a smell, but it’s very possible other people might bring it up as well,” says Tweel. “Regardless, it needs to be treated.”[3]

Flakiness

If your ear wax is dry and flaky you could have another skin problem that is prevalent, such as eczema. This consistency, accompanied by soreness could also be psoriasis, though it’s less common.

“Patients usually already know they have this because they’ll see rashes elsewhere, but it’s definitely worth bringing up,” says Tweel, “it’s pretty easily treated”[3].

Itchy Ears

Scratching your ear every once in awhile doesn’t mean that there’s a problem with your ear, but if you are constantly itching and scratching there is a chance you could have an infection.

Earwax Removal: Do It the Right Way

Ear wax isn’t bad, it keeps your ears dry and prevents infection, but you do want to keep it from blocking your ears. Ideally, the ears will never have to be cleaned, but this is not always the case. If you are experiencing symptoms that are interfering with your day-to-day life, consult a doctor or clean your ears safely using proper methods.

First things first, when it comes to earwax removal, do not use cotton-tipped applicators (such as Q-tips) because you risk breaking your eardrum. It’s also possible to jam ear wax even deeper into the ear shaft. These applicators may also increase the risk of bacterial infection in the external ear canal[1].

Instead, visit your doctor on a regular basis to have them clean out your ears, or try this safe ear cleaning method at home:

  1. Soften the wax – Use an eyedropper to apply a few drops of natural baby oil or glycerin in your ear canal.
  2. Use warm water – After a day or two, when the wax has softened, use a rubber-bulb syringe to gently squirt warm water into your ear canal. Tilt your head to straighten the ear canal and allow the water to enter the ear, and when you are finished irrigating tip your head to the side and let the water drain out.
  3. Dry your ear canal – When you’re finished, gently dry your outer ear with a clean towel[2].

Do not have your ears irrigated if you have diabetes, a hole in the eardrum (perforation), tube in the eardrum, skin problems such as eczema in the ear canal or a weakened immune system[4].

For something that’s thought about so infrequently throughout the day, earwax can give us some important clues as to our general health and well-being. Taking good care of our ears will ensure that our hearing remains top-notch throughout our lives. Something as simple as changing the way that you clean your ears can have a big impact on your health.

MAGNESIUM RICH FOODS, BENEFITS, DEFICIENCY, SUPPLEMENTS

Magnesium is a mineral that is absolutely necessary for health and proper functioning of the human body. It plays many roles in the body, ranging from regulating blood pressure, to regulating heart rhythm. Though severe deficiencies are rare, a good portion of Americans unknowingly have a mild magnesium deficiency. In fact, this deficiency is the second most common nutrient deficiency in developed countries, just after vitamin D deficiency.

Not getting enough of this nutrient can endanger your health. Not consuming sufficient amounts of this mineral is associated with elevated inflammation markers, which in turn is associated with major health problems like diabetes and heart disease. Insufficient levels therefore can increase your risk of developing these illnesses; it can also cause hypertension, insulin resistance, and low bone density.

You may have a higher risk of serious deficiency if you:

  • Are an older adult
  • Have Crohn’s disease another illness that affects digestion
  • Have an alcohol addiction
  • Have kidney disease
  • Have parathyroid problems
  • Take a proton pump inhibitor medication
  • Take antibiotics
  • Take cancer drugs
  • Take diabetes drugs

Best Foods

Magnesium rich foods are an easy way to up your intake of this important mineral. The best foods with magnesium are:

  • Dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale
  • Legumes such as beans, peas, soybeans, and lentils
  • Nuts

Foods high in magnesium are not eaten daily by the average American. This is why mild deficiencies are so common. Eating a serving of each of these foods with magnesium every day can be enough to ward off the possibility of magnesium deficiency for the average person.

Of course, you can also get this mineral through supplements. Getting more of a nutrient through diet versus through supplements is a personal choice. Magnesium foods (dark leafy greens, legumes, and nuts) are also high in other essential vitamins and minerals, plus fiber, protein, and beneficial antioxidants; this is the main advantage of going the dietary route. In general, nutrients in food are better-absorbed by the body than nutrients in pills.

However, there are also cases in which taking supplements is a better choice. For example, if the foods high in magnesium are not palatable to you, you can simply take a supplement. Or, if you have a digestive condition that makes you not tolerate dietary fiber, then you are better off taking supplements than eating those high-fiber magnesium foods.

Proven Benefits of This Mineral

Reducing Hypertension

Increasing intake of this nutrient relieves mild hypertension, according to one study that used a sample of 48 people. Twelve weeks of supplementation plus lifestyle changes is more effective for treating the condition than lifestyle changes alone. Many other studies confirm the benefits of magnesium for blood pressure regulation.

Reducing Asthma Symptoms

Taking this supplement regularly can produce a small but notable reduction in asthma symptoms. In one study, 55 people with asthma took 340 milligrams of this nutrient daily for 6 months and saw an improvement in their condition.

Mental Health Benefit

There is evidence that the mineral can be useful for many mental health concerns. The mineral can help depression; researchers have also found that people who have depression tend to have lower levels of the nutrient in the first place. Taking this mineral can help reduce symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which can include emotional symptoms such as mood swings. Lastly, taking this supplement may help you better cope with stress, as demonstrated by rat studies.

Other Benefits of Magnesium

Hypertension, asthma, and mental health are among the best-proven uses for supplementation with this mineral. There are also many other magnesium benefits that are perhaps a little less well-studied, but for which there is still good evidence nonetheless. This essential nutrient can also help to:

  • Improve athletic performance.
  • Improve bone mineral density.
  • Improve sleep quality.
  • Reduce symptoms of diabetic neuropathy.
  • Reduce the severity of migraines.
  • Reduce tinnitus.

Keep in Mind

If you have a medical condition, including any psychiatric condition, you should not rely on supplements alone to treat your condition. Magnesium supplements should be used as a complementary therapy together with any prescribed medications and other measures, as directed by your doctor. Do not try to replace a prescription medication with a supplement.

Which Form Should I Take?

Magnesium oxide, chloride, sulfate are sub-optimal forms of magnesium. Magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride are more likely to cause gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhea, while the sulfate form is not absorbed by the body very well.

Magnesium glycinate is a good go-to, as it is very well-absorbed and gentle on the digestive system. Magnesium citrate is also a common and versatile choice. Avoid magnesium oxide, sulfate, and chloride unless your doctor recommends them. Most other forms of the mineral are acceptable.

Another option is to use topically-applied magnesium oil. This carries the advantage of having no risk of gastrointestinal side effects.

Concerns and Precautions

In addition to what you get from your diet, you should not take any more than 350 milligrams of this supplement per day. Taking too much of this mineral can cause gastrointestinal distress, low blood pressure, muscle weakness, and fatigue. At very high doses, taking too much can even be fatal. Be careful about your dosage and keep the supplement out of reach of children.

Certain medications are incompatible with magnesium supplements, especially diuretics, antibiotics, and heart medicines. Check with your doctor before taking it if you use any prescription medicines.

Despite the many magnesium benefits, this supplement is not safe for everyone. If you have diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, or a disease of the digestive tract, check with your doctor before taking this mineral.

Cabbage And Green Tea Balm For The Liver

Everything you eat throughout life and have a pass through our liver. This is why the body suffers and absorbs all the bad eating habits and their work protects our body.
Fatty and fried foods, unhealthy drinks, alcohol and drugs as its main enemy. Because of the hard work performed by, the liver can be very loaded, which can cause health problems.

Given that it is not connected with our nervous system, liver disease will not hurt us, and the time the disease is very difficult to detect. However, the good news is that certain foods “cure”. We reveal their names.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF EATING MORE OLIVES

Traditionally cured olives, such as those found at most olive bars, offer a host of health benefits. For starters, they’re rich in iron, vitamin E and copper, and are an excellent source of fiber. But what about all the fat?

It’s true that olives do have some fat, but it’s the incredibly healthy monounsaturated variety. Monounsaturated fats have been found to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis and increase HDL (good) cholesterol.

However, olives contain a triple whammy for your health that works in synergy to provide extreme benefits. Along with monounsaturated fats, olives are rich in vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant that neutralizes damaging free radicals, along with polyphenols and flavonoids, which have anti-inflammatory properties.

Here are some interesting olive health facts:
– Help prevent the frequency and intensity of hot flashes in women going though menopause.

– Eliminate excess cholesterol in the blood.

– Control blood pressure.

– A source of dietary fibre as an alternative to fruits and vegetables.

– A great source of Vitamin E

– Act as an antioxidant, protecting cells

– Reduce the effects of degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, benign and malignant tumours, including less serious varicose veins and cavities

– Help prevent blood clots that could lead to a myocardial infarction or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

– Potect cell membranes against diseases like cancer

– A great protection against anaemia

– Enhances fertility and reproductive system

– Play an important role in maintaining a healthy immune system, especially during oxidative stress and chronic viral diseases

– And just in case these benefits weren’t enough, they are also a great aphrodisiac.

– Nutritious and rich in mineral content as sodium, potassium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and iodine

– Provide essential vitamins and amino acids.

– Contain oleic acid, which has beneficial properties to protect the hear.

– Contain polyphenols, a natural chemical that reduce oxidative stress in the brain. So by eating a daily serving of olives helps improve your memory by up to 25%.

– Just one cup of olives is a great source of iron – 4.4mg.

– Eating olives can improve the appearance of wrinkles by 20% since they contain oleic acid, which keeps skin soft and healthy.

– By eating just 10 olives before a meal, you can reduce your appetite by up to 20%. This is because the monounsaturated fatty acids contained in olives slow down the digestion process and stimulate the hormone cholecystokinin, a hormone that sends messages of fullness to the brain.

– Not only does it do that, but it also helps your body to stimulate the production of adiponectin, a chemical that burns fat for up to five hours after ingestion.

See How To Relieve Pain From Constipation Naturally, With The Aid Of A Few Ingredients!

Learn how to relieve pain from constipation by making slight alterations to your daily diet; include these ingredients more and the pain is gone!

How to relieve pain from constipation is something that we avoid in our daily conversations, because it’s still considered as a taboo. However, constipation is not something to be ashamed of as it can be downright debilitating. Before going to the pharmacy for a laxative (quick fix that often worsens the problem) try some simple home remedies to relieve your discomfort, and prevent it from coming back.

How to relieve pain from constipation – 7 essential ingredients

  1. Olive oil

It is more than just a healthy fat; it can also help relieve constipation. Olive oil stimulates the digestive system, if taken regularly. In the morning consume a tablespoon of olive oil. It works best on an empty stomach.

  1. Lemon juice

Citric acid acts as a stimulant of the digestive system, and also helps eliminate toxins and undigested material that has accumulated in the walls of the colon.

  1. Molasses

It contains significant amounts of vitamins and minerals, especially magnesium, which helps relieve constipation. You can consume 1-2 teaspoons daily.

  1. Coffee

Caffeine is a natural stimulant for the digestive system. You can take 1-2 cups daily, but do not overdo it as it may have the opposite effect. Coffee is a diuretic and causes you to urinate more often, and if you drink it too much, you can cause constipation by dehydrating your body and extracting water that normally softens the stool. Do not drink coffee on an empty stomach.

  1. Get moving

Moving the body helps the smooth muscle in the colon also move. You should wait an hour after meals before exercising.

  1. A lot of fiber

A healthy diet improves your whole body. Natural foods contain large amounts of fiber. Some good foods full of fiber are:

– Beans

– Whole-grain bread

– Broccoli

– Apples

– Nuts

– Potatoes

  1. Aloe Vera

It is known to relieve cuts and burns on the skin, but it can also soothe your stomach. It is best to use pure aloe Vera gel from the plant. The gel directly from the plant is more concentrated than the commercial aloe juice.

Take 2 tablespoons of aloe gel mixed with juice of your favorite fruit in the morning.

Made By A Giant Pharmaceutical Company, These Multivitamins Are Killing You

Polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, hydrogenated palm oil, modified food starch, modified corn starch (GMO), Blue No 2 Aluminum Lake, Yellow No 6 Aluminum Lake, Red No 40 Lake, are all found in the most popular brand of supplements.

We are talking about the multi-vitamin Centrum – one of the most popular vitamins on the market. What most people don’t know is that this multi-vitamin is probably killing you. Take a look at the health risks of Centrum.

Turns out, Centrum is made by Pfizer, the world’s largest pharmaceutical company. Centrum is the number one selling multivitamin, not because it works but because of its multi-billion dollar ad campaign.

Centrum has enormous sampling programs. And it’s no surprise that it is the most recommended supplement by doctors. Here are some of the health dangers of Centrum:

1. Centrum vitamins are synthetic

Most of the Centrum vitamins are procured from synthetic source ingredients.
Calcium carbonate. This form of calcium is the least absorbable one available on the market. The human body can absorb only a small percentage of it.

Ferrous fumarate. This iron supplement often causes constipation which triggers an overgrowth of harmful flora. As a result, you may experience gastrointestinal issues, a compromised immune system, and problems with nutrient absorption. This is a certainly bad choice for a multivitamin.

DL-Alpha tocopherol. Researchers at the Oregon State University discovered that our body excretes this synthetic form of the vitamin E supplement 3 times faster than the natural. Moreover, this synthetic version of vitamin E might disrupt the hormone system.

Unlike whole vitamins, synthetics are made from isolated parts of the original vitamin, so they simply don’t work as they should. Studies prove that your body doesn’t even recognize these “vitamins” and therefore, treats them like any other foreign substance.

2. Centrum vitamins contain fillers

Polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, modified food starch, modified corn starch (GMO), Blue No 2 Aluminum Lake, Yellow No 6 Aluminum Lake, Red No 40 Lake, are all found in the most popular brand of vitamin. Many food dyes are cancer-causing and cause ADHD, migraines and other symptoms.

3. Centrum vitamins contain hydrogenated oils

Hydrogenated oils are one of the most toxic oils and according to 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, you should keep the consumption of this oils (and trans fatty acids) as low as possible.

Hydrogenated oils can slow the microcirculation of blood through the brain further causing various emotional and physical ailments such an Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ADHD and muddled thinking just to name a few.

In conclusion, if you take multivitamins, make sure they are made with 100% organic ingredients or superfoods. And buy it at a health food store.

Tests Reveal Popular Wine Brands That Are Full Of Deadly Arsenic

Numerous people think that they’re getting a good deal when they grab a cheap bottle of wine off of the shelf. However, the main problem with these cheap wines is the fact that they contain heavy metals that might be killing you silently from the inside.

If you are a wine drinker or you have family members and friends that love wine, you will want to keep reading. It turns out that some popular wine brands are full of deadly arsenic, and there are evidences based on research in regards to these claims.

Chronic levels of arsenic, including low levels of organic levels, can accumulate and inhibit the body’s natural process of eliminating other heavy metals. Arsenic of any type is also carcinogenic but, inorganic arsenic is the most toxic, and typically found in cheap wines.

Arsenic can also appear in ground water, but the EPA limit for ground water is 10 parts arsenic to a billion parts water. According to a recent class action suit filed March 2015 in Los Angeles, CA, several wines contain 500% or more than what’s allowed in drinking water.

Several winery representatives from the 28 wineries in the suit claim that allowing more arsenic in wine makes sense, because “people drink more water than wine, and water is the only beverage with an arsenic baseline that is monitored by the government.”

The wines were tested by Kevin Hicks, a former wine distributor who started a wine testing lab in Denver, known as BeverageGrades. Of the 1,300 California wines tested, around 1/4 of the bottles showed arsenic levels higher than the EPA’s allowable water level. The cheaper the wines, the higher the arsenic levels.

If you buy your wine from a health food store, that doesn’t mean you’re safe from high arsenic levels. Trader Joe’s Charles Shaw or “Two-Buck Chuck” made the list. Read below to see what other wines made the dangerous list.

Omeprazole: The Stomach Acid Reducer That Is Killing People

For many, gastric acid can be a major problem – and one drug commonly prescribed is Omeprazole.

While the prescription antacid drug Omeprazole is considered safe and effective, the Omeprazole side effects might just surprise you. Omeprazole is in a class of drugs commonly known as prescription antacids, but technically they are known as Proton Pump Inhibitors (or PPI’s), for their effects on the acid generating proton pumps of the stomach.

While omeprazole can be helpful for a short time, unfortunately, this class of antacid drug only target symptoms and not the root cause/issue. They don’t fix anything. This is partly because of how Omeprazole changes the bacteria in your gut, but also because of other larger health risks presented by omeprazole.

While doctors seem to think that Omeprazole side effects are rare and non-problematic, it is quite possible that the side effects of Omeprazole occur over a long period of time that your doctor doesn’t notice.

Your doctor may not recognize your chronic health problems as side effects of Omeprazole, so we are told by doctors that some of the chronic problems are simply a natural path of getting older. However, in many cases, chronic health problems are simply drug side effects.

Omeprazole side effects

Omeprazole side effects can be extremely serious. This drug was never intended to be used longer than a few months, yet it’s being used for years and sometimes even decades. However, reports are starting to come out that there truly are problems with taking this drugs long term and that maybe reducing acid isn’t such a good idea after all.

Besides damaging and killing off the good bacteria and intestinal flora in our stomach, Omeprazole prevents the absorption of vitamin B12 and the deficiency of this B12 can lead to:

  • Anemia
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Neurological damage (leading to dementia)
  • Damage to the central nervous system
  • Osteoporosis
  • Red blood cell depletion (causing chronic fatigue)
  • Muscle problems
  • Respiratory problems

A large study by the Kaiser Permanente Institute researched the dangers of Omeprazole by monitoring over 26,000 test subjects over a period of 2 years. The subjects that took Omeprazole demonstrated over 65 percent of them had a B12 deficiency as a direct result of taking the medication. This shouldn’t be taken lightly. This can lead to complications that can eventually lead to mortality.

Additionally, Omeprazole can cause calcium loss in our bodies – also known as osteoporosis, or brittle bone syndrome, making us prone to fractures and breaks. Our stomach is designed to be acidic, and it’s well known that calcium is best absorbed in the presence of acid.

Interestingly, side effects of Omeprazole also can lead to severe Magnesium deficiency and there have been cases of people having seizures from low magnesium that were directly related to the use of prescription antacids!

Even worse is that newer research has shown that one extremely serious problem is that Omeprazole and all PPI’s give users a 16 percent increase in heart disease over non-users. This is probably due to the fact that nitric oxide, a potent protector of the heart, requires an acidic stomach in order to be absorbed.

If you have an intestinal issue, do some research armed with knowledge and go to your doctor and ask them what you can do about your diet and lifestyle to permanently heal (and not redamage) your body. Meds are not the answer to everything and are mostly filling the pockets of large corporations at our own cost.
