To quickly achieve results in defeating cellulite, carry out the exercises according to the following schedule: 2 days training/1 day break, for 2 weeks.

Here’s What Happens If You Drink Beer Regularly

The Internet is full of stories about people who’ve altered beyond recognition after giving up their bad habits. But what happens if one does the opposite? How would your health and appearance change if you decided to do something harmful on a regular basis?

The editor of Bright Side has attempted a daring experiment to find out what happens if you drink two pints of beer every day for one month.

First off, I must say that I don’t have any serious bad habits. I often jog in the mornings, and I only drink alcohol on special occasions. Before starting the experiment, I went to the doctor to check my health and make sure that everything was in order.

In accordance with the alcohol unit norm, I decided to drink 2 pints of beer a day, yet do it 5-6 times a week instead of 4 times a week (as health experts advise). At the end of the month, I was going to have another checkup to find out how this affected my well-being. As expected, the first day of the experiment went cheerfully, with my mood much improved by the foamy beverage.

  • First week. After a few days of drinking beer regularly, I started to get frequent headaches — something that’s never happened before. I tried taking pictures of my body every day, to record the changes. Having compared the photos, I noticed that my face became slightly swollen, and there were dark circles under my eyes.

  • Second week. All of a sudden, going to sleep and waking up started to feel 100 times harder than usual. I found that I needed at least 40 minutes to fall asleep. I also acquired the habit of repeatedly resetting the alarm clock in the mornings (as a result, I began to oversleep and come in late to work). What’s more, it was now taking me about an hour of effort (and a cup of strong coffee) to fully wake up and start my working day.

  • Third week. Colleagues began to notice me getting more and more irritable. Often, I would catch myself staring at the monitor, unable to concentrate. Before the beginning of the experiment, I could easily work for about 4 hours without a break and not feel tired afterward. Now, I felt the need to relax at the end of every hour. I kept looking at my watch, waiting for the working day to end.

  • Fourth week. I often jog in the mornings, so I tried not to abandon this habit throughout my experiment. However, I had to make an incredible effort just to get dressed and leave the house. Before, even in bad weather, I’d run at least 7 miles in one morning. But as soon as I increased my beer intake, this distance suddenly diminished by half. At the end of the month, it turned out that I only jogged 5 times, although usually it’s 10-14 times a month.

The thing that surprised me the most was the really quick weight gain. Despite the fact that I never stopped exercising, a beer belly became noticeable before the end of the month.

When the experiment came to an end, I visited the doctor once again to sum up the results and find out how much damage I’d caused to my body. It turned out that my shortness of breath and swollen face were due to the overflow of blood vessels. The appearance of the beer belly was the result of endocrine system disorders, and the insomnia was a symptom of kidney problems.

  • My appearance has worsened. Just one week of drinking beer on a regular basis gave me dark circles under my eyes and made my face pale and swollen. Also, I started to get a beer belly.
  • Sleep quality deteriorated. It takes me much more time to fall asleep and wake up. Even after 9 hours of rest, I still get out of bed feeling tired.
  • Working has become more difficult. Because of sleep disorders, I became noticeably irritable. I found it difficult to focus on the task at hand, experiencing a constant need for rest.
  • Various health complaints appeared. Workout performance decreased twofold. Problems with blood pressure gave me shortness of breath and palpitations. Due to poor sleep, I suffered from frequent headaches during the day.

Before this experience, I mistakenly believed that a mug of beer on a quiet evening never hurt anyone. Of course, reactions to alcohol vary from person to person, but, speaking for myself, I definitely won’t be repeating such experiments ever again. Now I’m gearing up for long workouts at the gym and switching to a healthy diet. As for bars and beer shelves at the supermarkets — I’ve decided to avoid them for at least a couple of months!

10 Tips to Help You Recognize Quality Items

When we buy a new dress, shirt, or any other type of clothing or accessory, we want to buy a quality item. But in reality, clothes shrink and get torn even after the first wash.

To help you detect a poor-quality item on the spot, Bright Side has collected 10 tips that will help you avoid wasting your money.

10. Check the quality of cotton by squeezing it.

Grab some fabric, and squeeze it tightly in your fist for a few seconds. If the fabric looks like crumpled paper after this, it means it has been treated with a special agent to keep its shape. Such clothes will start looking like a rug after the first wash.

9. Pull the seams to see the gaps.

Quality items have dense stitches and thick seams. Try lightly pulling stitched pieces apart. If the seams show gaps, you are looking at a piece of junk.

8. Avoid open zippers.

Make sure to buy clothes and accessories with metal zippers covered with a strap: they are the most reliable and long-lasting. Open plastic zippers often break and are a sign of poor quality in almost any item.

7. Make sure the hem is wide enough.

Pants and skirts should have a hem of up to 4 cm. Blouses and shirts can do with a smaller one of about 2 cm. If there’s no hem or this place is simply stitched, you are likely looking at a low-quality item.

6. Give fabric a tug.

A quality item will always keep its shape. Take a stretchy part of a dress or a skirt, tug at it, and then let go. If the fabric loses its shape, you are looking at cheap and low-quality fabric.

5. Make sure the zipper matches in length.

Zippers on dresses, skirts, or any other kinds of clothes should be equal in length, even, and match in color.

4. Pay attention to the label.

Natural fabrics, such as cotton, silk, and wool, are strong and more durable than synthetics. However, 100% cotton can quickly shrink after washing. That is why it is a good idea to choose clothes with an addition (5-30%) of artificial fabrics (viscose, polyester, nylon, etc). These clothes won’t stretch out and will serve you much longer.

3. Make sure the seams and threads match.

Examine fabric patterns and thread colors. If patterns do not match and stitches are made with threads of different colors, it is a clear sign that this item was made in a hurry. Quantity was probably a priority here, not quality.

2. Check buttons and buttonholes.

When manufacturers make a fake or low-quality item, they often don’t pay attention to little details. That is why you should examine buttons and buttonholes before buying an item. Make sure that buttons are secured and no threads are sticking out. The holes should be neatly overlocked and evenly cut through.

1. Look at the coloring on the folds.

If the coloring on the handles, straps, or fastenings looks faded or leaves marks on the folds, this is a sign of a low-quality item. The same goes for when one part of the item looks lighter or darker than the rest. This kind of coloring will gradually fade after several washes.

How to Identify Common Bug Bites

Very few people manage to avoid being bitten by insects. This issue becomes even more pressing in summer. Sometimes it’s quite hard to identify what exactly bit you. The bite might hurt, itch, or even swell. There are many different insects, and they all transmit different diseases, so it’s very important to correctly identify what bit you.

The area that was stung by a hornet becomes red and seriously swollen. Blisters might appear. The victim feels very bad pain, even worse than the pain from a wasp sting. The hornet’s poison is even more toxic because the insect itself is bigger in size. The poison contains histamine and acetylcholine.

If the victim feels cold in the limbs, his or her ears and lips go blue, or breathing problems start, the victim must see a doctor.

You need to remove the sting that might still be in the attacked spot. The skin usually gets red and swollen. A person feels burning, a sharp pain, and a severe itch appears a little later. If you are not allergic, this is where your troubles end. However, if a person is allergic to bee poison, he or she might have breathing problems, which is a serious concern.

The symptoms of a wasp sting are like those after a bee attack. The stung area becomes red and swollen, the victim feels pain and burning, and terrible itching comes later. There might even be a hemorrhage on the skin. A wasp can sting multiple times. Just like with a bee attack, it’s very important to know if you are allergic as there may be an anaphylactic shock.

Mosquito bites look like swollen red spots the size of a berry. Most often they appear in open areas of the body. Mosquitoes bite the spots where the skin is very thin and it’s easy to get to the blood vessels. When they bite, they inject their saliva into the wound. The saliva contains anticoagulants that make the blood thinner. They cause the skin to become red, to itch, and to swell.

The body’s reaction to a tick bite is a red spot. The insect can be in the victim for a long time, growing bigger and drinking blood.

The worst thing is that ticks infect people with encephalitis, borreliosis, and many other diseases. If you remove the insect from your body but the red spot doesn’t go away and continues to grow, you have to see a doctor as quickly as possible.

Flea bites can easily be mistaken for allergies or mosquito bites because the bitten spots also look red and swollen. However, unlike mosquitoes, these insect bites are very painful, and the itch is much worse.

Fleas usually attack the legs, and only a sleeping person can be a victim. One insect can bite several times, so the distance between the red spots is usually from 0.5 to 1 inch (1 to 2 cm). Fleas transmit many serious infections.

Most ants don’t present any danger to humans. However, the red fire ant can cause a lot of trouble. Pustules appear on the bitten spots that will later turn into scars. The ants’ poison contains toxins, so the victim might have an allergic reaction or an anaphylactic shock. A thatching ant’s bite is less dangerous. It looks a lot like a mosquito bite. A pink spot appears in the bitten area that itches for a long time. At the moment of the bite, the victim feels a burning pain as though some boiling water was poured on the skin.

A cleg looks like a big fat fly. Unlike flies, clegs bite very painfully and drink human blood. At first, a small red spot appears not more than 0.03 inches wide (1 mm). Then it gets swollen and starts to itch. Clegs transmit different diseases like tularemia and anthrax, but most of the time they attack cattle rather than people.

If you notice small red dots that look like mosquito bites in the places where hair grows — on your head, your neck, and behind your ears — it means that you have been bitten by head lice or pubic lice. If such dots appear on your back, belly, hands, or legs, they must have been cooties. The bites are a few inches away from each other, and the skin looks like it was pierced.

Lice transmit very serious diseases like trench-fever and typhoid.

Bed bug

At first sight, bed bug bites look like flea or mosquito bites or an allergic reaction. The skin becomes red, swollen, and starts to itch. However, there is a way to recognize the bed bugs’ “work.” The bites are very close to each other and look like little roads on the skin. Bed bugs’ bites are more painful than mosquitoes’. The numerous roads can be noticed in the morning as bed bugs hunt at night.

10 Quick and Easy Ways to Grow Beautiful Eyebrows

For several seasons wide, thick, and — most importantly — natural eyebrows have been in fashion. However, there’s no need to rush off to the nearest makeup salon. You can attain this stylish look at home.

Today Bright Side presents a selection of top recipes that’ll help you transform your eyebrows in no time at all!

1. Exotic oils mixture

With this recipe, you’ll not only strengthen and lengthen your eyebrows but your eyelashes as well. In a small bottle, mix equal amounts of coconut and castor oil, and then add 1 tsp avocado oil. Stir everything together. Apply the mixture to your eyebrows using a mascara brush or your fingers.

2. Gentle gel with vitamins

This mixture will help to restore and strengthen your eyebrows, making the hair smooth and shiny. Mix 1 tsp aloe gel, 2 tsp castor oil, and 2 capsules of vitamin E. Apply the mixture with a brush or your fingers before going to bed. Rinse off in the morning.

3. Onion juice

Onion juice nourishes and strengthens hair follicles, accelerates hair growth, and adds shine. Take one small onion, chop it finely, and extract the juice. Apply the juice to your eyebrows, and massage it in for 5 minutes. Rinse off with your regular cleanser and cool water. Or you can simply wipe your eyebrows with an onion slice, as shown in this video.

4. Milk facial mask

Milk contains protein, vitamin B, lactic acid, and calcium. It restores and protects your hair while stimulating collagen production. Dip a cotton swab in whole milk, and wipe your eyebrows, as shown in this video. Let the milk dry, then rinse it off with your regular cleanser.

5. Lemon juice

Lemons are a valuable source of vitamins and antioxidants, essential for strengthening hair and making it grow. But be careful — lemon juice may have a noticeable lightening effect.

Wipe your eyebrows with a slice of lemon, like in this video, wait for 15-20 minutes, then rinse the juice off. Alternatively, you can make an infusion using lemon slices and a quarter cup of coconut oil. Leave the mixture for 15 days in a cool place, then start applying it to your eyebrows every day before going to sleep.

6. Essential oils

For the best effect, we recommend tea tree oil or lavender oil, which are known for their soothing, strengthening, and moisturizing properties. They are best used together with a base oil (coconut, olive, or castor). Be sure to test each component for any allergic reaction by applying small amounts of the oil to the crook of your elbow. Make a mixture of essential and base oils, and lightly massage it into your eyebrows. Repeat the treatment daily.

7. Egg yolk

Egg yolks are a rich source of vitamins and proteins that strengthen and thicken the eyebrow hair along its whole length. Take one egg yolk, whip it, and apply it to your eyebrows. Leave it for 15-20 minutes, then rinse off.

8. Vaseline

Vaseline is used for moisturizing and conditioning eyebrows. It’s also great for making them grow and giving them an attractive shape. Apply pure Vaseline to your eyebrows, as shown in this video, having previously removed any makeup and washed your face. You can also mix Vaseline with castor oil, olive oil, aloe vera, essential oils, or milk.

9. Massage

Using a clean mascara brush, comb your eyebrows thoroughly with up and down movements, going from the bridge of your nose to your temples and back again. Next, proceed to massage your eyebrows lightly with your fingers. After that, switch to intense stroking movements, pressing and pinching the skin. Press at a spot in the middle of an eyebrow and, without releasing your finger, begin making circular movements, gradually widening the radius. Repeat with the other brow. This massage will not only improve blood circulation and promote the absorption of nutrients but also remove headaches and eye fatigue.

10. Proper nutrition

It is useful to review your diet as well. You should always include foods that are rich in proteins, vitamins, and amino acids (such as nuts, meat, poultry, salmon, fruit, vegetables, eggs, greens, and onions).

5 Tips To Pick The Sweetest Watermelon

1. Field Spot

Field spots are the white spots you find on the peel of a watermelon. It is found on the places where the watermelon rested on the ground, and is ripe and sweet inside. These spots could be anything from creamy-yellow to orange.

2. Webbing

It shows the amount of bees touched the flower. The more you see the pollination, the better it is.

3. Boy Or A Girl?

Watermelons also have genders. The “boy” watermelon is more elongated and the “girl” watermelons are round and stout. And of course, the girls are sweeter.

4. Size

Change your notion of size and pleasure. Biggest watermelons are the biggest mistake you’ll make while picking one. Go for the smaller ones.

5. Tail

The tail of a watermelon shows how ripe it is. A green tail shows that the watermelon was picked too soon. The dried tails show that they are ripe enough.

14 Clothing Items That Can Disfigure Anyone

Clothes can hide any imperfections, enhance your strong side, and even change the proportions of your body by making you look slimmer and taller. Conversely, there are clothes that can make even model figures look ugly.

Bright Side has collected the items that should be avoided by every woman.

14. Shortened loose pants

Shortened loose pants divide your silhouette, making your legs look shorter. Moreover, loose pant legs make your body look like a triangle.

If you want to have this item in your wardrobe, you should choose the 7/8 model of pants, which nicely opens the ankle and enhances the length of your legs.

13. Dresses without a clear silhouette

A dress without a clear silhouette looks like a sack, and that is why it can spoil even the slimmest body shape. All because it adds extra volume in absolutely unexpected places.

It’s better to give preference to dresses with defined waists, the styles of which will enhance the beautiful shapes of your feminine body.

12. Cropped clothes

Today’s modern cropped tops, short vests, and jackets look great in Photoshopped pictures on Instagram. However, in reality, they usually open up those parts of the body that are better left hidden. Very few of us can boast the ideal flat tummy. Moreover, if you take a sitting position in cropped clothes, this naked part of your body will look like fatty tissue.

Buy clothes that cover your belly, and leave cropped styles for your next beach vacation.

11. Striped pants

Striped pants are a very tricky item in any wardrobe. Very often, stripes in the area of the hips and butt get stretched, making your body look wider.

Opt for pants without any strict prints. Conversely, some small graphic prints can hide little imperfections of the body. Moreover, this item can make you stand out in a crowd.

10. Shiny clothes

There is nothing bad in putting on a blouse with small beads or a sweater with pearl beads. However, a shiny sprayed blouse makes a woman look like a warrior in chain mail. Moreover, it usually adds shine to problem zones.

If you want to stand out in a crowd, choose blouses with bright images or pictures matching the colors of your look. By doing this, you will enhance your individuality and avoid extra inches.

9. Pantsuits that fit poorly

Usually, girls look beautiful in pantsuits. The strictness of the textures emphasizes femininity and fragility.

The suit should be tailored strictly to your measurements, not being too loose or too tight. Give your preference to a suit in a single color for a more harmonious look. And don’t forget to complete your look with stilettos to make your legs look longer.

8. Pants with large prints

Pants with prints can freshen up and diversify any monochrome look. However, it is better to avoid large prints on the fabric because it breaks the proportions of the silhouette and enlarges the legs.

Choose pants of one tone with colorful inserts. For example, black stripes on the sides will make your legs look slimmer.

7. Contrasting colors

Contrasting colors in clothes divide the body into rectangles, giving a rough shift from the waist to hips.

When choosing a color scheme, try to match shades. This will help hide imperfections and enhance the strong aspects of your figure. Moreover, it will prevent both the top and the bottom from looking heavy.

6. Oversized clothes

Huge T-shirts, haphazard sweaters, and oversized jackets always look nice on runway models. But on other women, it seems that such clothes are shouting, “My washing machine has stretched my sweater!“ or ”Look how slim I’ve become!”

Don’t add extra weight to your body. It is better to choose clothes according to your size with a fitted cut.

5. Faded denim

Stores are loaded with jeans in this style. However, it’s better to avoid them. Thanks to the contrast of dark to light, the hips will look bigger and more massive than they are.

To look slimmer, give your preference to blue jeans of a single tone. Leave faded denim for lighter models.

4. Clothes with horizontal stripes

If you are not a girl with an extremely thin body, clothes with horizontal stripes will not make you look nice. They will also add volume to your figure.

Contrast lines will look much better and highlight your shape correctly. For example, the lines on a V-neck will enhance your breasts and graceful collarbones.

3. Blouses with large prints

A large print makes your body look like a square, visually making it heavier. Moreover, the print sometimes gets stretched or the cloth fits incorrectly, thus changing the proportions of the body.

It’s better to give preference to single-tone blouses with a bright emphasis on the collar, for example. Or you can choose things with a little print on the sleeves or in the waist zone. That will help you look slimmer.

2. Maxi skirt

Maxi skirts look nice on slim tall girls. However, girls that are plumper can look larger in these skirts.

Also, you shouldn’t forget about the eternal fashion rule: if you close the top part of your body, you should open the bottom, and vice versa. This means if you choose a closed blouse with long sleeves, it’s better to combine it with a short skirt. If you close your body completely, the body will lose its elegance.

1. Shapeless cardigans

Knitted cardigans of uncertain sizes with stretched edges are good for keeping warm in winter. Usually, this model shortens the legs thanks to its uncertain length. A woman in such a cardigan looks like a shapeless ghost.

Choose cardigans in your size which fit well, especially in the areas of the shoulders, and do not have loose sleeves.

7 Myths About Acne That Won’t Help You to Get Rid of It

Acne spoils not just the appearance but the mood as well. Acne treatment is tightly connected with lots of myths that will not help to defeat this problem…and they might even make things worse.

Bright Side presents the most widespread myths and shares how to protect your skin from harm and get rid of acne as quickly as possible.

7. Eating patterns do not affect the spreading of acne.

There is old research that claims there is no connection between diet and acne, but modern science proves the exact opposite.

Sugar stimulates insulin production, and its overabundance can cause acne. Avoid products with a high glycemic index, such as white bread, soda, chocolate, and beer.

Acne may also appear because of hormones contained in milk, which increase sebum production. Its overabundance clogs pores and causes acne.

Eat products that will help you keep your skin clear:

  • Products with a low glycemic index, such as whole wheat bread, cashew nuts, cauliflower, and cucumbers will help to reduce acne spreading.
  • Zinc is contained in eggs, meat, mushrooms, and seafood and can help to restore the skin.
  • Vitamin A facilitates the healing of acne. It is a reason to include carrots, cabbage, and spinach in your diet.

6. Smoking facilitates the spreading of acne.

Many people think that smoking causes acne. Undoubtedly, tobacco use is a bad habit, but it doesn’t evoke acne spreading.

Smoking worsens skin regeneration, and acne heals more slowly.

If you quit smoking, you will see that you look better: the oxygen flow to the skin will increase, and the recovery process will go faster.

5. Decorative cosmetics cause acne.

Not all cosmetics are bad for the skin. Use products that are marked as noncomedogenic as they are produced specially for problem skin. Avoid cosmetics containing alcohols and oils. Alcohols dry the skin and cause skin irritation, which, in turn, causes acne to spread. Oils make the skin greasy and clog the pores.

Remember that cosmetics should contain:

  • aloe;
  • retinols;
  • peptide 10.

These components improve acne healing as they stimulate collagen production.

4. A suntan helps to get rid of acne.

UV rays stimulate the work of the sebaceous glands, causing the emergence of new acne. That’s why a tan is forbidden if you have acne. Use a sunscreen for problem skin — it will protect the skin from sunrays and acne spreading.

3. Stress causes acne.

New pimples are not a result of stress. But if you already have acne, stress can worsen the situation: the wound and post-acne healing slows down.

2. If you wash your face more often, acne will go away.

Acne, as well as blackheads, is caused by the clogging of pores with an excess of sebum. That’s why you may wash your face as many times as you want, but the acne will not be reduced. Thorough face washing will cause further irritation: sponges and facial brushes traumatize the skin and don’t clean it. It’s also a reason not to wipe your face with a towel. Just pat your face dry with a towel or a napkin.

Sulfate-containing (SLS, SLES) soaps and cleansers overdry the skin.

1. Toothpaste helps to get rid of acne.

Toothpaste contains baking soda, essential oils, hydrogen peroxide, menthol, and triclosan which can certainly dry acne but can also cause irritations and rashes.

It is better to use a benzoyl peroxide-based acne treatment, which is developed to cure acne.

Everyone knows that it’s bad to pop zits. You can damage an infected follicle and aggravate the inflammation. If you need to clean the skin up and have no time to visit a beauty parlor, you can use dental floss and scrape all the blackheads away. The pores will be unclogged. Don’t forget to treat your skin with an antiseptic.

When buying hard cheese, pay attention to its color, holes, and texture: it should be uniform and without a white crust; the holes should be evenly distributed on the whole chunk; if the cheese doesn’t restore its shape after you squeeze it a little bit, it’s better not to take it.

Fresh meat is pink, not bright red or even brown. Note the fat streaks: they should be glistening and very light. Good meat will also return to its original shape and not stick to your hands.

Ground coffee

Opt for coffee with an average price: the cheap one won’t be good, while the expensive one’s taste is the same. Good ground coffee is never stored in plastic jars, only in glass or metal ones. Look at the “best before” date too — it shouldn’t be more than 18 months.

Natural honey is transparent and of a uniform color. Quality honey is very sweet and has a specific fragrance. Rub a drop of it between your fingers: if it’s easily absorbed by your skin, it’s fine.

Ice cream

Always read the contents of ice cream. Berry flavored ones are rarely natural, so it’s better to choose those containing only nuts, candied fruit, or gumdrops. Popsicles, on the other hand, are never made of anything natural.

First and foremost, pay attention to the contents of chocolate. The shorter the list, the better your bar is. Quality chocolate must contain cocoa, while any derivatives are a sign of an artificial product. In addition, it’s better to pick a bar that has cocoa oil in it, not vegetable oil.

A fresh fish has bright eyes; clouded and bulging eyes are indicative of an old fish. The gills should be bright red or, rarely, light pink (in cases when blood was drained through the gills). When you take the fish in your hands, its tail should hang freely.

Fresh bread shouldn’t be tough, so always touch it at the store. Note that plastic bags let the bread stay fresh for longer, but it will lose its taste in just a couple of hours in such a package.

Picking good carrots is easy: just take the one that is less bright, has no spots, and is small.

Bell pepper

Two or three sections in a bell pepper indicate that it’s a little bitter and has fewer seeds. If there are four sections, it will be sweet with lots of seeds. Also, pay attention to the lower part of the pepper where it bulges.

Look at the border between the white and green parts of the scallion: if it’s distinct, the product is good; if it is gradual, the scallion will be too tough.

It is no secret that gelatin is made by boiling the skin, tendons, ligaments, and/or bones of pigs and cows with water.

As a good alternative in your cooking, you should use agar-agar — it is vegan and keeps your food solid at room temperature.
